The artwork was originated by St. Catherine Labouré following the apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Rue du Bac, Paris, France. The Blessed Mother instructed St. Catherine to have the medal created with this specific design. There is nothing magical about this image; the Miraculous Medal is not a “good-luck charm”. It is a great testimony to faith and the power of trusting prayer.
